Homosexuality is NOT a sin!

OK, before you pick up a stone to throw at me let me explain what I mean! There first has to be clarity on what exactly we are referring to here by homosexuality. I believe that there is a fundamental difference between behavior or an act and an experience of attraction. Therefore, I can confidently say that biblically, the sexual act of homosexuality IS a sin…but the experience of homosexual attractions is NOT. (GASP!) If this was the case, that would mean that everyone that experiences any desire contrary to holiness and righteousness is willfully living in sin(even those that have been born again). But this isn’t true, is it?

According to James 1:14-15, “But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.” From this, we see that temptation is not sin and that there is a progression of sin which leads to death. It begins with a neutral desire from within. But we get into trouble when we allow ourselves to be baited and enticed by it.

Jesus’ life gives us an example of a man that experienced every temptation in His human frame possible, yet He did not sin.  So in the same way, I believe we can escape every temptation we face in our flesh. Just because we feel a natural inclination to something, this doesn’t mean it’s right and OK to follow. And it doesn’t mean that we are actively living in sin because we experience homosexual attractions. We all have our own battles to fight and areas to resist…let’s do it together in Christ as we all pursue holiness.
